Sustainability & Hydroelectric Technology
Data centers use massive amounts of electricity, and are, in and of themselves, miniature power plants. South Bend has a unique mix of electricity that is unlike many other locations in the Midwest. The power of the St. Joseph River is harnessed throughout the region with three hydroelectric dams. The South Bend power mix is only about 60% coal - drastically lower than industry averages.
The data center in South Bend captures and reuses heat energy during the cooling process.
The exterior lighting at Ignition Park is "green" and powered by wind energy.
Even the lighting in the data center’s kitchen is designed to conserve energy.
