With the holidays sadly behind us, and the adorable decorations put away, we decided to reflect on our cheerful wall of holiday greeting cards we’ve received from other businesses over the past year. Some were personal, others funny or clever, and some were not so personal… but all revealed clues as to how well businesses are utilizing their information and data sets (or not).

When Data Realty executives announced in 2011 that they would build a new data center at Ignition Park, company President Rich Carlton decided to read up on Studebaker history. After all, the state-certified technology park is on the very ground that for decades was the smoking, clanging heart of Studebaker’s vehicle business.

In 1939, MGM’s The Wizard of Oz, proved both a "technicolor triumph" and an introduction to the consequences of severe weather. Dorothy was transported from a sepia-toned Kansas to the mystical Oz via tornado; however, most of us would not benefit from such a fate. Tornadoes are a threat to the safety of our homes, our businesses, and our cities. With today’s world of Big Data, tornadoes can also damage our society’s information. A 2012 report indicated that losses of up to $140,000/facility were incurred at downtown data centers impacted by tornado damage.

Last fall, Data Realty became the first tenant to move into Ignition Park, the state-certified technology park located on former Studebaker land south of downtown. One year later, the data storage and analytics company has doubled its employment to more than 20 workers and continues to fill space in its 45,000-square-foot data center.

Data Realty celebrates the end of their first business internship program and a successful summer. Representing Indiana University South Bend (IUSB), University of Notre Dame, and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), the team of nine interns worked on projects involving over ten relevant industries and thirty prospective customers. The interns’ research and presentations generated fresh ideas and excitement for Data Realty’s growing business opportunities.

Marian Hodges, a recent addition to the Data Realty team, is serving as Vice President Product Delivery. Hodges offers strategic and operational expertise, especially in understanding the consumer. Highly trained, she received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management.
